In the Spirit of Giving – Diamond Delivery Collects Furnishings for Orphanage in Haiti

“As Christmas approaches, we want to make this season of giving memorable by helping the most vulnerable – those who lack the most basic necessities and comforts of life.” – Rick Diamond

Over 500,000 Haitians still live in tent cities

The orphanage that will house 50 children in 2012

Surrey, BC – Almost two years after a devastating 7.0 earthquake rocked Haiti, the poorest nation in the southern hemisphere, more than half a million people still live in tent cities, and many orphaned children remain homeless and uncared for.

Diamond Delivery has teamed up with Harvest for Humanity to assist in gathering the furnishings for an orphanage that will provide a home for 50 orphaned Haitian children.  The orphanage will open in a newly-renovated building just outside of Port-au-Prince in early 2012.

We are collecting beds and bedding, furniture, appliances, kitchen wares, school and teaching supplies, and recreational equipment.  The furnishings will be shipped by container to Haiti in late December.

Diamond Delivery is calling upon corporations and charitable organizations to assist by providing new, refurbished or gently used items such as appliances, electronics, linens, kitchen dishes and utensils, etc.   To facilitate collection of the many items required by the orphanage, we are asking that donors undertake to supply a specific category of items according to their product line or resources.

If you would like to help out with this important initiative, please contact our coordinator, Jillian, at 604-324-1135 or by email: jillianskeet@rdiamondgroup.com

Kawkawa Camp & Retreat – Thanks!

December 8th, 2011 by admin

Earlier in the fall, Diamond Delivery delivered a truck full of red bricks to Kawkawa Camp & Retreat. We recently received a letter from the Executive Director of the Camp, Wayne Stewart, and wanted to share it with you:

Dear Rick,

I just wanted to thank you again for your generous donation of the delivery of the “Red Bricks” for Kawkawa Camp & Retreat. Fred and Jane Petterson are doing a marvelous job on reconstructing several areas of camp and have told me over and over again what a delight it is to work with you.

They also mentioned that Jaavan was an awesome guy who was very gracious and helped unload the brick from the truck. His attitude and helpfulness was so very much appreciated.

Thank you for supporting our camp work and our local youth. We have a wonderful program here and are so pleased to have the community involvement behind it.

If you are ever out and about, please feel free to drop into the camp!

Sincerely,

Wayne Stewart
Executive Director
Kawkawa Camp & Retreat

Well Wayne, We were more than happy to help out, and hope to see you and the campers soon!

Diamond Delivery Filling Container for African Orphans

August 23rd, 2011 by admin

There are currently more than 43,000,000 orphaned children in Africa. Many of these children have lost their parents to AIDS. Surrey-based transportation company, Diamond Delivery, in conjunction with Lift the Children, is doing its part to help care for these children.

Lift the Children currently sponsors thirty orphanages, caring for more than 5,000 children. Their goal is to support 2 to 3 additional orphanages each year. A container of supplies will be shipped to Africa in mid- to late August, arriving by the first of November in Nairobi.

They are looking for assistance in collecting the following items.

1) Socks and Underwear (for 5,000 children ranging from babies through teens)
2) School Supplies
3) Feminine Hygiene Products
4) Mosquito Nets
5) Bicycle Pumps (for both bikes and soccer balls)
6) Blankets
7) Small Plastic or Vinyl Covered Mattresses

Diamond Delivery is calling upon corporations and the community to assist in the collection and donation of these basic items that most of us take for granted, but will bring extraordinary joy and comfort to destitute and orphaned children a world away.

If you are able to assist, please contact Linday Oliver at 604-649-7603 or by email leoliver@shaw.ca

Diamond supports White Rock Rotary Club Rec for Kids

June 6th, 2011 by admin

Diamond Delivery has donated a playhouse to Rec for Kids, a volunteer organization in Surrey that collects used sporting equipment and bicycles, and redistribute them to children in need.

The playhouse was raffled off on July 15 to help raise funds to cover Rec for Kids’ annual operating expenses. It was towed on a Diamond Delivery trailer in the Cloverdale Rodeo Parade and is on display at the fairgrounds throughout the Rodeo where raffle tickets were sold. It was also on display at Surrey’s official Canada Day celebration! Businesses in Surrey were also invited to assist in selling raffle tickets.

Diamond BBQ in support of SMH SimBaby Charity Run

April 11th, 2011 by admin

Diamond Delivery held a Fundraising Neighbourhood BBQ at 13350 Comber Way, Surrey on Friday April 15, 2011 to raise funds towards the $56,000 necessary to purchase a Simbaby – a tool for training doctors in specialized infant care.  To be held .

Diamond Delivery, supporter of Surrey Memorial Hospital committed to complete 56 km’s as a relay together on Saturday, April 16th, 2011 – 10am to Noon at Bear Creek Park.

Sponsors had the opportunity to “Buy a meter for $1″ or “Buy a kilometer for $1000″, where the targetted $56,000 will allow the hospital to purchase an important simulation teaching tool for doctors, nurses and ER staff that treat 17,000 children a year in the ER.

There are close to 4,000 births at Surrey Memorial Hospital each year, a number expected to increase. 500 infants a year require care in the hospital’s 18-bed neonatal intensive care unit. SMH desperately needs teaching tools to attract and retain medical staff. Surrey has the lowest number of doctors in urban Canada. SimBaby will help make Surrey a more attractive place to practice medicine and put down roots.

DOUBLE THE FUNDS…From February 21st till June 1st Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has been challenged to raise $5,000,000 and a private donor will match it. If they meet their goal our $56,000 raised will turn into $112,000.

By completing this relay, Diamond Delivery staff will highlight an important challenge facing all residents of Surrey – a shortage of doctors.

SimBaby was at the Relay Run on April 16th, 2011 for participants and spectators to check out
